Wow, that PSU is scary to say the least. This Antec 400W is only $10 more and much higher quality.

As for the CPU and mobo, they will work, but I question the wisdom of putting any money into the LGA 775 platform at this point. Here's a $120 combo with an 3.1GHz AMD triple-core and Biostar mobo. I don't really like Biostar that much, but it supports unlocking the 4th core on that Athlon II X3, DDR3, and the price is right.

im just building a budget oc and i dont know if amd is a good choice cause every other pc in my house runs intel and intels are solid and last forever( i have an 8 year pentium 4 that still works) i dont want to make this a intel vs amd forum but i dont know if i should trust them and plus if the cpu ever goes out i can switch to my pentiuim 4 if i stay intel lga775

AMD is the better choice for a budget build. CPUs are for some reason incredibly stable and don't die unless you start volt modding them crazily.

ok so i was reading around your forum and i want to give u a detail description on what im doing and then i will need your advice on what to do so here goes.

1. The task i will be doing is playing games(Cod,L4d2 Combat arms and orange box) and surfing the web.

2. My budget is 350- 400 dollars

3. Hopefully i can get all my parts from America.

4. I am kind of an intel fanboy because thats all i ever used my whole life(my have just dated myself a little) but if amd is better than they were 20years ago then i may switch just for this build.

5. The only part i have is a 500 watt power supply and a case.

6. I have searched threads and intel 775 are cheap to build but apparently so are amds( am3 i think idk i am not familiar with amd)

7. I do plan on overclocking as much as i can

8.Idk what resolution what ever fits on a 2oinch monitor(haven't bought it yet)

9. I plan on the build being done buy the end of the month or early October

10.I do need advice on whether my build is good so i will post the full build list below(just in case u didn't read the first one)

Cpu and Mobo Combo: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...7&sku=B69-4440

Ram: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...?EdpNo=4837614

Graphics card: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...?EdpNo=6463722

Power supply(sorry guys cant change it just order it): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817338036

So if i need something or if u have suggestions let me know.

Mfenn just linked an AMD x3 for the same price as that Intel dual. It's also clocked at 3.1 default compared to 2.7 for that E5400. I would expect them overclock just as well. With the AMD you even have a chance at unlocking an X4.

The CPU+mobo combo Mfenn listed. 120$
The ram you chose. 85$
PSU Mfenn listed. 30$

245$

In my opinion grab a hyper 212+ for 22$, that will really help you overclocking. That makes it 267 with an aftermarket cooler.

Another bonus with the Athlon II is the integrated memory controller, versus the north bridge the Pentium Dual Core still relies on.

I'd go with the Biostar mobo in the combo mfenn linked and avoid sli/xfire. I just don't think sli/xfire is worth it unless you're doing a high-end build.

If it's not too late, call newegg or something to change the psu. $10 more for the Antec psu isn't much for a decent quality psu (which the Athena psu probably isn't).

Jetway = crap Biostar = slightly less crap :awe:
4850 CFX in 2010/2011 = waste

By the time you're ready to Crossfire 2 4850's, you'll be able to get a 6770 (or whatever) that outperforms them with less heat and noise.

agreed, cf/sli is not logically on such budget builds. and id only purchase msi, asus, gigabyte, evga boards.
