Is this a good first car for a 17 year old?

I just got my license and my dad said that I can have something sporty as long as it's not too much money so I found something fairly cheap. I figure I deserve it since I got mostly A's last year. He can also afford it easily. My only concern is that it won't be reliable and I don't want to have to get Victor to drive me around while it's in the shop like he's been doing the last ten years. Here is the car. Should I buy it? I'm a really good driver and I can drive fast (and still be really safe).

I think you should consider something a little newer, perhaps a 1998 355 or something like that.

Do you really want to be seen in a <14K car?

I think you should ask your dad for a better car. Tell him not to be such a cheapskate.

Teenager + sports car == ridiculous insurance premiums. Be sure to factor that into your budgeting.

Skoorb your dad is a real ass for trying to pawn off a 1982 car on you. You deserve at least a 98 or above car.

Come on, that car's 20 years old.

You don't want to be seen around in a 20 year old car, pester your Dad until he agrees on a new M3.

Yes, it's a great car.. and service on the car won't be bad either seeing as it's out of warranty by about 20 years, and there are no ferrari dealerships anywhere but in California :)

it's a real keeper for a poor 17 year old student!

Well last year he said he'd buy me maybe a one or two year old corvette but now he doesn't want too because he says it's too fast for me but I _AM_ a very good driver. So anyway at least maybe i can pick up some chicks in school with this.

First off, i just want to say that i am 18.

No, that is not a good first car for a 17 year old. Insurance would be killer. Due to a mixup, i was accidentally placed as the primary driver on my moms 2001 mustang GT and they quoted about $1200/mo for insurance when i was 17. A ferrari would be a lot more than that just because of the name. Second, Ferraris are notorious for breaking down. Go read this to see the problems they were having with a brand new ferrari. Older ones are far worse than newer ones as far as reliability goes, btw. And if you park that in a school parking lot, i would give it a week before it got keyed.

He's going to make you drive that ugly POS car?!?!?!? Man you should get a new civic SI add on a nice tip, spoiler, and body kit. Don't forget to use those decals to tell everyone what part's you've added. That would be so much cooler, faster, and pick up sooo many more ladies:-D
