i need to pick up a pci firewire card, since i just got an ipod and i dont have firewire on my mobo already. i've been looking through newegg, and i found this card to be the cheapest. have any of you used this card or are familiar with it? or, can you tell me if its an ok card (i know i'm kind of skimping on the price).

P.S. i've been thinking about getting a new sound card, so should i hold off on getting the firewire card, and get a new audigy, since it has firewire as well?

I believe that NEC makes ALL the Firewire Chipsets, read it in a study a year or so ago, and that in a battery of tests
there wasn't 3% performance difference between the lowest price/performer and the highest price/performance cards.

Where did you read that?

Companies who make them include Lucent, TI, VIA, and a couple others I believe. I have a VIA. Indeed, the one in his picture is actually a VIA. :p

As for that specific card, I dunno, but from now on I'll stick with cards with an internal port. Mine does, which came in handy when I got this case, which has an internal 6-pin cable that connects to a front port. VERY convenient.
