Is this a good enough laptop for class?

My niece required a laptop for her class, and I'm thinking of getting her HP G6-1C33CA, Bilingual Laptop i5-2430M, 15.6-in. HD LED, 6 GB, 750 GB for $619.99 CAD. I'm willing to spend up to $750.00.

Are there better laptop out there for the money?

Battery run time is the most important and then weight.

6 cell is kind of weak

its a large laptop

on the other hand its cheap so expendable if she breaks it

you have to weigh what is more important, quality or expendability. depends entirely on your budget. unlimited budget i'd always suggest a macbook air type. lugging around pounds all day gets old fast.

whats she doing? mostly these things are used for facebook btw

Seems fine for a cheapie laptop. Don't expect great build quality or a good screen and keyboard though.

Being Asian my niece is cheap and she doesn't want me to spend too much money on her.

My niece is looking at the HP Pavilion G6 AMD quad core A6-3400M, because it is cheap and have 6GB ram.

I'm more incline to steer her toward the TOSHIBA Portege R835-P50XB Core i3 2310M, or the ASUS U36JC i3-380M, because they are lighter.

It is worth it to go for the Toshiba?

The idea is good, but until intel boosts the power of the atom it is a dud. Now if going with AMD, then maybe but it still feels agonizingly slow.

I have to agree that a netbook is painfully slow.

A few months back I promptly return a netbook and got a full size laptop for traveling, because it was too slow even for surfing.

The Intel will be slightly faster, not that it matters for this case. Lighter is always nice though. "Worth it" depends onthe price difference.
