Is this a good deal?

Does this look like a fair asking price? $30995 for a '08 IS350 in what appears to be perfect condition, 14k miles.
IS 350

Would you guys think there is room for talking it down, or is this already a good deal? It's a bit below NADA and KBB for the car, but I'm thinking it would still be possible to drop that price some more (you have to be prepared to get less than you're asking as a private seller on autotrader, right?) I know it's going to be dependent on badly the seller wants to get rid of the car, but in general how low do you think it could reasonably go before it would reach 'steal' territory?

This is for a friend, not myself. He needs a little advice before making an initial offer. I am also looking for this same car however, just one a bit older and a LOT cheaper. 😛

Knock off a grand and a half and you're at dealer wholesale pricing. If you want an actual number as to what a steal is, that would be $28,400. That's not to say that the current price isn't fair, just giving you an idea of the wholesale market.

For Week Ending Oct 7
Condition Above Average Below
Sale Price $30,847 $27,957 $25,067
Mileage 9,897 19,793 29,690
Total Sold All 15

Adjusted mileage: 14,000
Auction $30,200 $28,400 $26,500
Est. Retail $33,100 $31,100 $29,000

I love Lexus, and especially the IS line, but tell your friend to consider the Hyundai Genesis. Just as nice, bigger, and cheaper. Could get a brand new Genesis for the same price probably.

It is a great car! But tell your friend to consider maybe a BMW. 3 series I heard have been better reviewed than the IS. I would recommend a 335i, look around, maybe one with 10k more miles on it might be in the same price range. In driving dynamics, BMW > Lexus.

Yes Genesis is a great car if you want all the luxury and toys. But if you want a drivers car, try looking at the Germans. Hint: BMW

fixed that for you.

My 335i has been reliable from day one.

Arrrg... it comes with a better warranty than the Lexus. I've test driven all three of these cars and by far BMW in terms of driving dynamics is in a completely different league.

Have you test drove a Genesis? All the reviewers seem to love the car and the video reviews I've seen have looked good. I am happy with my Audi but I still look fondly at the Genesis.

Buddy bought a 2006 IS350 LOADED in 2008 for 31K with 11K miles.

Had every option at the time: Nav, backup cam, rear sunshade, everything.

I would say 28K is a good number to be able to say you got a GOOD deal.

please get the rear spoiler, it will make your car stand out. the rear spoiler of the 350 looks specially good and accentuates the car perfectly compared to other cars and their respective spoilers

i have a black 350, looks awesome, you wont regret it. you will love how quiet the car can be, its power and ofcourse the sound system

I can't speak for him, but I personally test drove a Genesis 3.8, and the one thing that I really didn't like about it was that the back seat was unusable by an adult. The rear window makes the roof incredibly low, and my 6' self couldn't even fit back there at all. The car drives really nice though (it was a 6AT, dealer didn't have any V6 MT in stock.) I have no problem sitting comfortably in the back of the IS.

As for the 335i, yes its a really nice car. There are some horror stories about reliability problems though. I'm pretty sure he's dead set on the IS.

28k sounds like a good offer I suppose.

Now I just need to find an '06 IS350 around 20k for myself 🙁

Why would anyone buy a Hyundai when they can get a BMW 3 series, or Audi...

They like driving and not having their car break down and costing an arm and leg to repair all the time.

But hey thats just me.

Are you talking about the Genesis boat or the coupe?

Before you make ignorant comments, look at the JD Power Vehicle Dependability study first. As for 2008, you can clearly see BMW is more reliable than Hyundai. In fact, its even more reliable than Honda!

Edit: Not as reliable as Lexus, but its better than Hyundai and Honda. And the driving dynamics and build quality make up for it.

Take a look at the consumer reports magazine car annual car issue and they break it down by year. Hyundai models as a whole are more reliable than BMW's. A Lexus IS350 is more reliable than a BMW 3 series according to consumer reports.

Consumer report's car advice is about as useful as a flaming bag of shit

I'm gonna go with PhoKingGuy on this one. I waited for my BMW to fall apart when it hit that dreaded 40K miles that everybody talks about, it didn't happen. She just passed the 70K miles now (yes, I drive a lot) and fall-apart-switch still not activated.

Oh, that's right, one thing did go wrong with it, the pump for the windshield wiper fluid. I really don't get where all the "German cars are bad, mmmmkay" come from. The new generations of BMWs, Benz will run circles around any other cars when it comes to reliability and build quality. And it also comes with a driving experience that can't be matched, go buy one and enjoy.

Meh, just leave them alone in their world of false hype while we Bimmer owner enjoy driving it without issue. (My counter hasn't activated yet either at 42k miles 🙂)

Oh and btw, the issue with Genesis' steering system locking up was published today in Korean media. The issue is that steering suddenly stops working while the car is running and doesn't work until you restart the car. It already caused several fatal accidents in Korea AFAIK. They are not sure about the exact cause, but they are guessing new electrical steering system they started integrate as a possible cause. (Also possibly something to do with Smart Key & Immobilizer, but it's all guesses right now) I am not sure if it was already fixed in US model, but regardless, a good indication of how reliable Hyundai became!
