this is a BenQ joybook 5000 that i am getting imported outside of the US.

intel centrino 1.5 ghz
15" LCD screen
512mb ram
60gb hard drive
ati radeon 9700 w/ 64mb
4x dvd burner

BenQ is not available in America but I think they make pretty good LCD screens...

i am getting it for $1350 from Taiwan. is it worth it to have it brought back from Taiwan ?

Not sure what part of America you're living but I've been to couple of computer shows (California) and some vendors do sell BenQ products like the JoyBook. If you're in the Los Angeles area, there are some Chinese computer vendors that sell BenQ products.

My friend who just moved from Taiwan to the US bought an HP laptop because it's got Chinese character keyboard and Chinese Windows XP installed. She also bought a printer. Both were packaged horribly using newspaper to support instead of those foam stuff. This isn't from HP directly, it's from a Chinese computer store. Unfortunately the printer came out with chipped pieces - still works, yet she paid $50 more than she could have bought it from Office Depot here in the US.

I do hope your notebook comes with good packaging especially if they're directly from the manufacturer.
