Is this a good deal?

I think this
http://www.buildtoorderservers...egory=76&idproduct=279
is the same as this
http://www.newegg.com/app/View...tion=17-151-008&depa=0.
But, it is cheaper.

I don't need 460W. But, I would like to get a quiet supply that stays quiet even when I play a game. I currently have a Fortron 350W supply. It is very quiet. But, it is not when I play a game. I am thinking if it can provide 460W, it should run quiet if I only take 300W from it.

Do you have anything against SeaSonic, or this particular PSU?
Do you know "Build to Order Server"?
Anyone has ordered anything from them?

Thanks,

Navid

Not exactly the same - the one from the server place has the EPS12V (24-pin) mobo connection while the one from newegg has the standard ATX (20-pin) power connector. The one from newegg is a retail pack while the other might be OEM w/o AC cord, manual etc. The prices might be a lot closer if you add 3-day (fedex saver if they offer it) shipping from the server place and compare to NE's shipped price. IAC, they are basically the same PSU and you can use the one from the server place with a standard ATX connector on the mobo as long as there is a bit of clearance off the ends of the connector.

Thanks for pointing out the connector. I had missed that!

Why does it say "low RPM when temperature is low"?
So, its RPM will go high when it heats up when I am playing a game! That will be just like what I have!
Anyone has this PSU?
Is it quiet?

Seasonic makes silent PSU's although their Silent Tornado are more silent.
I have a Seasonic Silent Tornado 400W and are very happy with it, they're also known for making very good quality and beeing able to handle "brown outs".

Its high rpm is not 5000rpm loud thankfully. Its more like, its loudness will be drowned out easily by your speakers. It is supposed to be one of the quietest psus for any circumstance. check out www.silenpcreview.com and go to "recommended psu" on the left side and check out their review. They show how the rpm ramps vs: temp.

Minor corrections ;p

In any case, this is one step quieter than the super silencer. And is probably the quietest actively cooled psu on the market.

Not heard of them but you can check them out at resellerratings.com - just remember that those with bad experiences are far more likely to post than those with good experiences...

Why not just buy the 400W Silent Tornado from their website? It's more quiet.

Good point!

Have you had both of those? Or, is there a comparative review somewhere?

Although it's the 300W Super Tornado compared to the 400W Super Silencer

Inside a case powering a real system, the Seasonic Super Tornado 300 will probably run quieter than any other PSU examined by Silent PC Review.

Build To Order Server is under "BTOS Technology Inc" at ResellerRatings (and Pricewatch) but they don't have any reviews. I find that odd because they claim to have been in business for "decades." I don't know. My greed might have me ordering one of their 400W Super Tornados for $59 + shipping just to see what happens. I assume they're OEM "white box" or no box, not that I would mind that. But the price still seems almost too good to be true (best on Pricewatch not by a little, but by a lot), so I'm very leery.

EDIT: Rereading BTOS's "about" page, I'm not sure how long they've been in business as BTOS; the "decades" of experience might refer to the people who founded the company, not the company itself. (Assuming they're on the up and up.)

probably different revisions.

Or the "B" stands for "box." I'm going to ask Seasonic about it.

EDIT: It's in the FAQ:

Q34
What's the difference between FT & FB models?

The FB models are the Super Tornado retail product line. The FT models are designed for system integrators and other OEM customers. Both series comply with ATX12V V1.3 PS design guide, with Active PFC and 12cm cooling fan. The Super Tornado models are supplied in retail packaging, along with the Dr. Cable cable management kit, Serial ATA connectors, and 3-year direct manufacturer warranty.

Maybe, I actually got my 400W in a box with Dr. Cable and instruction pamflet, but the 300W I bought for my parents came only wrapped in bubble plast.
