Is this a good deal? Onkyo HT-S5400 on sale for $449.

I've been looking to get a HTIB for the last couple months, but haven't seen anything that really tickled my fancy. I was in Sears last night and stumbled across an Onkyo HT-S5400 on sale for $449.

I was thinking of going over and picking it up next week when I start my vacation. Is it necessary to purchase additional speaker wire? I have no idea how much this setup comes with, so I was wondering if anybody could recommend a good online store to get some good speaker wire from? I don't know how much I'd need either. I have to do measure with some string and then go from there.

But what do you guys about this HTIB? I just want something basic, adequate HDMI inputs for my PS3 and Boxee Box, which this appears to have. Anybody see any red flags?

Thanks in advance.

Edit: I'll also need some wall mounts for the four satellites. I plan on mounting them in each corner of the living room, but I have no idea what type of wall mount to get. Any advice here?

Oh wow. $399 on Amazon huh? I did some internet price checking too. Now sure how I missed that.

Are you sure that you'll even need thicker wire? HTiB speakers aren't known to be terribly powerful to begin with.

EDIT:

One thing I wasn't really aware of is that you can sometimes ask home theater component dealers for deals on products. For example, I paid $430 for a brand new Denon 2112ci from Electronics Expo where the same item retails for $650 (on Amazon and other sites).

I looked up that Denon HTiB and the problem with it is that it includes the AVR-1312, which isn't very good. :\ You'd be better of buying the AVR-1612 and the speakers separately. But yet again... consider talking to the actual distributors to see if they'll give you a good deal.

That is true, but i hear of most people replacing theirs anyway. I took a look at the wire the other day after buying my new speakers, and my gosh its thin. It's gotta be 20 gauge max (more like 22-24). While that's ok for closer speakers, maybe not so much for the ones further away. Although you're probably right and there is no difference.

Anyway, krynj, depending on your room size, budget, and what you want, these HTiaB sets are really not bad at all. If you could, do listen to what theyre telling you. They told me to piece it out, and i kind of wish i had. At the very least, youre gonna get start getting the itch to upgrade like a mother fucker, and i must warn you, it's expensive. 🙁😛

For me, i'm still happy i bought mine, because purchasing the receiver and sub separate would have cost a lot, and im carrying my stuff over, so its really not a bad value for a starter set. The Onkyos usually come with decent-good receivers that you can add speakers to if you want. The sub seems decent to me, but I've been told HTiaB subs are not sufficient (so there goes another $200-400 🙁).

Anyways, what im getting at is that its expensive as fuck to purchase decent stuff and get (especially a 7.1) a system when you piece it out, and if you can't spend too much money its not a horrible way to go, and definitely improves the sound a lot over just your tv. When you have more money to spend you can just buy it all together. Wow that was a long ass post haha
