Hmm 70 views and no replies, so not sure what that means, is that a good deal, ok, deal, sh1tty deal? Any known issues with the galaxy cards? The Newegg reviews say that they are so big that SLI si probably not an option on most MOBOs.. but aside from that didn't see anything strange.

The deal by itself without the gift card is nothing special. There have been plenty of GTX580s going for $430 with rebates for a while.

Personally, I wouldn't spend $430 on a GTX580 right now, not when 28nm GPUs are going to be here within 6 months. GTX580 is a slightly revised GTX480, a GPU that came out around March/April 2010. So a GTX580 is essentially a 2-year old card that still sells for a large premium due to 28nm manufacturing issues that have delayed GTX600 and HD7000 series. If you wanted a GTX580, it would have been better to purchase it when it first came out. If HD7900 series launches soon, then the price of that card will plummet.

If I was buying now, and "had" to spend $430, I'd bump the budget just a little and get 2x HD6950s, 2x GTX560Ti or if you only want a single card, I'd rather get a GTX570 and overclock and save myself $100.

If you are still set on getting a GTX580, I'd rather get an EVGA or XFX version and get lifetime warranty, or get the Gigabyte GTX580.

I can't wait 6 months or whatever it's going to be, because BF3 is out now and I want to play it, and my GTX 260 is a POS at this point.

So what I'm looking for is 60 FPS average or better on Ultra with all settings maxed out at 1680 x 1050.

So whatever graphics solutions gets me there, that is what I want, but it has to be from Amazon cause I need to use that gift card towards it. And when it is all said and done I don't want to pay more than $400ish, gift card included.

I don't even think that a single 580 can get me that performance, so not sure what to do...

The GTX 570 in SLI mode is an interesting thought, but that will probably run in the $550 range with the gift card.

Am I just aiming too high as far as what I want to do? Should I set a more reasonable goal of maybe running it on HIGH with everything maxed out?

It's pretty sad that $400 can't let you play any game on max settings, but I guess it is what it is.

I'd take Russian's advice and go with a single GTX570 and overclock. Going any higher than that and you might find yourself cpu constrained at that resolution. Then you'd still have the option of grabbing another GTX570 if you're not getting the performance you're looking for. It would be considerably better than a single GTX580.

So on that note, what is this right here: http://www.amazon.com/MSI-N570GTX-Tw.../dp/B004XVMAKU

Is this a 570 that has been already overclocked by MSI? Can this be overclocked even further?

Also the 570 has 1 GB of memory, is that going to be a potential issue at the res I'm going to try to play at, or does that limitation only come into play at higher resolutions?

Also I think I wasn't doing the math right in my head.. so including my 100 amazon gift card I can get 2 6950s for a total of $388...

That I think I can do, is that better than 1x 570?

dumb question, but is BF3 really that good?

I was never into the Battlefield series. I never liked the engines. The way my player moved and interacted. Others will of course love the game. CoD, CoD2, even W@W are more my speed. Good engines in them with W@W slipping a little.

You missed the deal about a month back where SabrePC.com was selling a Zotac 580 for $400 with FS. I admit it was not a wise purchase on my part after getting the card, as I had finally given up hope of the Toxic 6950 coming back in stock anytime soon. The 580 is a fast card, but I blew the hell out of my budget as well.

6950 2gb are prolly the only card worthwhile now so close to next gen (when current high-end premium cards lose their value). The reasons are simple. They are cheap and offer great perf/$$ and also perf/watt. They also have the potential for a full unlock to 6970. If not, they obviously have the OC capacity to surpass 6970 speeds. CF also scales amazingly for this gen and 2gb gives you heaps of future proofing.

The only other card I'd consider would be gtx560 ti, for similar reasons. You can folk out a small bit of cash to play BF3, just when next gen comes, you can ebay these cards and not lose much $$ if you want to upgrade.

Microcenter has the zotac 580 for 399.99 after MIR. Thats the best 580 deal currently around, you can also check amazon warehouse deals, they sometimes have practically new but open box 580's in the 410 range.

Its probably not the best bang for your buck card, it may be better to wait a few months.

Thank you for the insight. I haven't played FPS since CS, and crysis disappointed me until now. :(

This is good advice if you have a borderline old card and can't wait months for the new generation. Some of this highly anticipated titles are going to beat the release of both company's new cards.

6950 2GB Crossfire is a beast setup but I would rather grab a GTX 560 Ti or a sing 6950 2 GB and then wait till the next round of cards come. I woud then sell the single card I have and pick up something between a GTX 670 or a HD 7950.

Oh yeah :)

I was never into the Battlefield series. I never liked the engines. The way my player moved and interacted. Others will of course love the game. CoD, CoD2, even W@W are more my speed. Good engines in them with W@W slipping a little.

I feel like the ground combat is more like CoD now, where people actually die when you unload into them as you'd expect as opposed to BFBC2 where it wasn't so much the case.

I can't really play any other FPS at this point, without vehicles it just makes it seem like a little kids game or basically counter strike, which I've played to death long ago so no more of that.

Thanks for all the help guys! I think I'll go either the single 6950 route and wait for the next gen cards, or get 2x 6950 cards and roll with that until I feel I need to upgrade again.

My final question would be, is there any preference as to which card to get from the 6950 pile? MIS, EVGA, etc... etc...?

Ok, order placed!

1x 6950 from Amazon so I could use the gift card: http://www.amazon.com/Sapphire-DL-DV...&s=electronics

1x 6950 from SuperBiiz https://www.superbiiz.com/detail.php?name=AT-6950_3R

This will be my first dual GPU setup, so I'm pretty psyched!

Also, is there a way to sell digital copy games or what not? I will be getting two copies of Dirt 3 with these bundles, and also a copy of Deus Ex which I already own, although I might just give that to my roommate, but I'd want to sell at least one copy of Dirt 3, how does one go about doing that?

Thanks for all the help!
