Is this a good deal on a DVD-RAM drive?

Ok, first of all, this is a system pull (Compaq) so it probably doesn't have any warranty other than the 30 days the store gives ya. :|

Second, avlogic.com sells this for just $5, 1 year warranty, but out of stock...


I don't know how well the drive performs nor the compatability of the disks though....

I would hold off on buying DVD-/+ (any form of rewritable or recordable) until the formatting war settles down and standard format is formed.

AFAIK, DVD-RAM is independent from DVD-RW, DVD+RW and DVD-ROM, so it is proprietary and it can only be read back on DVD-RAM certified drives.

as long as you make sure it writes in a format that wont be obsolete in a year then i say it looks ok.
