There's a wireless internet company installing in my apartment complex, and they're offering high-speed internet access for 19.95/month.....the minimum gauranteed downstream on it is 410kb/sec, upstream is 192....I'm not sure if that's worth it....there's comcast cable internet available too, up to 4megs/sec for 42 bucks a month....I do a lot of gaming...I'm not sure if 410kb/sec is enough...any opinions?

Pay the extra if your a gamer. It also depends on what kind of gaming you do.....FPS? or not so bandwidth hungry games?

Gaming doesn't demand bandwidth, it demands ping.

I'd want to see a full writeup of the wireless security measures before deciding to fork over double.

Yah, it's mostly FPS gaming....if I'm dl'ing mp3's or something, and I go witht he cheaper internet service, my DL's will go at least 41.0kps/sec correct, whereas with the more expensive cable-internet i can peak at 400kps/sec...correct?

Comcast keeps upgrading and making there network faster, up to speeds of 6 megs here in boston...Sadly, I have never reached speeds faster the 700k. If you download things simaltaneously (sp?), then get comcast.

They seem to have a lot of Intelligence Loss though. ;)

410Kbps / 8 = 51.25KB/s download rates (Theoretical Maximum)

Ask how the bandwidth is alotted, how they can guarantee those rates, and what they do if you get subpar performance. Not as in "48KB/s" but as in "25KB/s"

any other providers in your area? I just switched from comcast to starpower (rcn) and I'm paying $70 a month for internet and basic cable (mont. county, MD) ... 10mbps down/800up
