the book I started ou twith was a book from Tony Gadis, it is called starting ou twith C++, very easy to follow

Be careful with a book that is based around Borland or Microsoft.

They will sneak in some compiler/IDE dependent examples.

It is very difficult to write a program for Windows (which Borland and MS target) and move it from one environment to another. Advance planning can help, but it is a pain.
The same can be said about the design/use of the different IDEs.
