Is this a good build?

It's my new home computer, so I do a bit of everything, occasional gaming. I'm not sure I'm going to overclock it, it's probably fast enough, but who knows... It wil have only one HD and the DVD.

Any changes?
Any advice very welcome.

I would wait up for the new gc's to come out, unless you really arent gaming or just dont care. which is what I am doing, they should be out sometime in march!!

I was also going to buy that same ram, but opted for the Corsiar XMS2 2GB which is 3 dollars cheaper right now then when I bought it last night :( and also its 169 right now after rebate!!

psu seems fine, unless you plan on doing some major ocing, might want a bigger one maybe.

hd and burner seem fine I think!!

Looks pretty good... but I might spend a few extra bucks and get the SATA Lite-on DVD burner.

Most intel 965P motherboards include IDE support as an afterthought (although gigabyte boards, i think, are a notable exception)... I'd check with other vista/S3 owners to see how installation from an IDE DVD drive went for them.

installation from an ide dvd drive went fine on my ds3.

The FSP AX#### line is their budget series. For the price of that psu, I'd go for the XClio Goodpower 500W. Its a pretty solid CWT unit. They also have a 450W, which is also a solid CWT unit. CWT is also the supplier of Antec's SP/TP PSUs. There's a Topower 500W at ewiz for under $50, which is better than all previously mentioned PSUs. And the Enhance 500W at ewiz for $63 would be the best under $65, I think.

You're going to find overclocking that cpu unspeakably easy.

I'd recommend you switch the RAM to low latency CAS4 DDR2 667 instead... like this CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 675 Dual Channel Kit for $179 ($149 after MIR). With the 9x multi on the e4300 you're not going to use DDR2 800 speeds unless you're seriously overclocking to 3.6 GHz (and I don't see a cooler in your list). And the higher CAS5 latency of the RAM you picked will slow it down considerably. Plus, you save money.

(Your mobo is good though you could save $14 by switching to the Biostar TForce965PT)

Pretty damn good choices for a first post in a YARMRT (yet another rate my rig thread), but I say change the graphics card for a $170 X1950Pro until better D3D10 graphics cards flood the market and their prices come down a little. Slower RAM with tighter timings may do you well too, as magreen says.

Thanks for all the comments. I didn't realize my DVD was not SATA. Most were sold out at the egg. They have a Samsung w/ Lightscribe for $45 shipped. Maybe that will do it.

I was hesitant about the graphics card, but maybe it will save me some money for now. I have a X800XL that is okay for the race sims I play most; the 7600GT should be superior. The X1950Pro is tempting. I'll review the benefits; maybe for an extra $80 it will last me longer than the 7600GT. I don't run and buy new games, so I don't need a top of the line (I wait for the game of the year awards :) ).

Good point about the memory. The Corsair is sold out at Newegg. Any other recommendation, for an alternative memory, and another place to buy from? I'd like to order tonight to have in time for the next weekend.

I had a hard time picking a PSU last night. There were many options, I'll probably switch it.

So, would this be a an okay fan? Maybe I'll overclock it a little bit...
