Best way to figure out if it's all made up is take a key name from the article, google it, then see if the story is reported elsewhere. I googled "Tan Youhui."

Sample result:

Since parodies aren't repeated in other news outlets, the story is real.

And yeah, it's a weird one all right.

I wonder if I'm being fooled by a spoof, it's so bizarre (Chinese media does mistakenly pick up "The Onion" style news occasionally, right?). Potential plot device for a movie, either way.

appears to be legit

I wonder how much each offered the next one, because it could only get lower and lower I would figure?

EDIT: Nevermind, USAToday article describes it.

I just can't help but laugh and think of how someone was like "Fuck yeah I'll kill a man. I'll shank him for you for $100k"... *Goes home*.... "Aight, who do I know that is stupid enough to do this?"

I’m surprised that the last subcontractor wasn’t some dude sipping chai in Bangalore.

At the price of the last guy I figured the only type of person dumb enough would be the equivalent of a tweaker that would stab someone just to get another hit of heroin

Snopes is usually the preferred site for check on news thats possibly BS.

And yes, regular news outlets DO repeat fake stories. But normally if they have any integrity they take it down and apologize.
For an example of the exact opposite behavior please visit www.FoxNews.com
