Hi all I got this for free with my monarch combo and was wondering if it would work well in o/cing a 165 to 2.5ghz+?

Its a Thermaltake venus 7+

Its a cheap fan but its already on my cpu and was wondering if it is worth it to get the artic freeze 64 pro or x-90 instead? How much of a difference in C will i see if i get one of those? Is it better than the stock hsf?

here is the link to the fan.

Mind telling me what the specs are i have no idea when it comes to the specs of fans.

i dont think it'll work that well...

looking by the fan's dimensions, its small. and fast. it'll work at stock but i for one wouldnt dare OCing on it.

i would go for the either one of the HSF you mentioned. reviews have shown their close to eachother, the XP-90 beeing better with a panaflo fan attached to it, but louder, and a bit worse with a nexus fan, but more silent. the freezer's pretty silent on its own. but you cant change fans, you can on the XP-90. for me, i would get wichever setup's cheaper.

or, if you have it, the new stock opteron 165 cooler with the heatpipes.

Here is a review of the new HS/F that is shipping with higher-end Athlon 64s and Opteron processors. That heatsink will undoubtedly be inferior to the stock unit.

The Venus 7+ is a decent heatsink for its time, but like everything else, it has gotten obsolete. The stock Opteron heatsink will do better because of the heatpipes as well as a bigger fan.

i bought it oem so i guess i will just have to buy a new fan. Heh... i will either go for the xp-90 with panaflow or a artic freezer 64 whichever is cheaper.

freezer 64 pro is the cheapest "good" cooler you'll get. heck, I bought one off zipzoomfly and it just got here today (1 day to process, 2 days to ship). very nice.

Or if you want, there are a overstock of those heatpipe AMD coolers on ebay. Around ~100 of those are listed as $15 shipped.

Search for sellers heatsinkninja and heatsink_outlet

Apparently alot of users got rid of their stock heatsinks without trying them 1st, no knowing the free gem they had on their hands.
