I've been looking for a DSLR for quite some time and still haven't pulled the trigger... is this a pretty decent deal?

Canon EOS Digital Rebel T4i 18MP SLR Camera w/ 18-135mm EF-S f/3.5-5.6 IS STM Lens + 2x 8GB Sandisk Ultra Class 10 SDHC Memory Cards + Canon 55-250mm EF-S f/4.0-5.6 IS II Telephoto Zoom Lens for $962

No. Just get a 18-55mm/55-250mm bundle. I bought my t2i with the 18-135mm lens and I regretted spending extra for the 18-135mm.

In fact, find a used T2i with the kit 18-55mm if you want a dslr with video. Otherwise purchase a used Canon EOS 20D (can be had with the kit 18-55mm lens for around $225-$250).

Unless you have a specific reason why you want the T4i, then buy used.

Adorama has (or had?) the T4I w/ 18-135 for $679. That 55-250 is garbage. Even a beginner will get more versatility out of the 18-135.

No the best lens, but seems like an ok deal for a body and 2 lens, plus two cards (albeit small).

you do realize that this is the newer 18-135mm STM, which brings Continuous AF during video recording, specifically for the T4i, right?
they didn't just add STM to this lens, the MTF charts on this lens is significantly better than the older lackluster 18-135mm.
the other STM lens is the 40mm f/2.8.

I suggest getting a Canon refurbished camera and lens. Canon refurbished products gets great praise for quality. Current promotion of 20% off.
Canon T2i + 18-55 kit lens - $358
Canon 50mm 1.8 - $80
Canon 55-250 - $120 with camera purchase
Canon 430ex II speedlight flash - $191
