Is this 3dMark2001 score general for the situation?

The computer is a Dell Dimension 8100 with 256mb of rambus memory, 1.5ghz Pentium 4 (stock clocked), Geforce 2 MX w/ 32mb of ram running WindowsXP professional release, Detonator XP 21.83 drivers, all the windows updates, geforce card is running 200/200... it gets 2784 in the default test, isn't that pretty low? I expected 3500ish

with about any CPU above 1ghz (AMD or Intel), the biggest determining factor on the 2001 score is your graphics card. I have a Radeon LE (32mb) and I get about 3000 with winXP and the latest radeon drivers. The GeForce2 mx-200 benches a fair bit lower than the 32mb Radeon, so your scores sound about right to me. I am assuming you ran 1024x768 32bit. I would not worry about it, as long as it plays your games... If you are really upset, you can pick up a GeForce 3 for about $300 or a Radeon 8500 for about $236, and with that kind of system and fast ram.... you would be cruising. But like I said, as long as it plays your games and runs your programs, I would not worry about it.

Oh, just to add, my friend who has a GeForce2 Pro 64mb gets about 3700 with winXP, so you should not even be close to that score. He runs a 1.33 athlon and I am running a 1.53 athlonXP. Anyway, hope that helps

yeah i was just curious, after setting up a 1.4 athlon w/ a gef3, same software setup and seeing it get a 6461 all stock.... makes me think the mx is a huge wimp, btw i ran the winmark at whatever the defaults are when you install it

yah, the defaults are 1024x768 32bit. Man, yah, those GeForce3's kick, though I am going to get a Radeon 8500. I saw no improvment in score between my Athlon 1.4 and my new athlonXP 1800+, so that just goes to show that once you have a kick-butt CPU, it's all in the Card. I would not really call the MX-200 wimpy, it seems to do ok, and it sure beats dropping another $100 on a new vid card if it is working just fine for you.
