Is this 3Dmark 2001 score right? I'm 1499 on a Duron 1Ghz + Kyro2...

Lifer
1 GHz Duron with 266Mhz memory at 2-2-2 with a 64MB Kyro 2 and I only get 1499 in 3DMark 2001.

Now I don't really care about my overall score it doesn't mean much to me...but I was looking at the truck chase scene...my FPS were dipping down to like 3-4 on the high quality one...

Is that right?

I'd test some actual games...but I accidentally formatted my games drive 😱...so 3Dmark2001 is all i have..

My Athlon 550 with Voodoo5 got like 1100....

That just doesn't seem like much of a jump but I don't really understand how 3Dmarks are scored.

The Kryo2 is very different then mainstream technology and because it is new, there is lots of work to be done on the drivers and there is also a lot of tweaking you can do. Your score isn't vey good considering your hardware if that is what you are wondering though. I suggest using ORB, the only downside to that is many users are very EXTREME so it is hard to beat anyone.

Well, duron will not be as fast as full fledged p3's or t-birds. Also, there is a bug in the driver with render into texture. The kyro2 supports it, but dx8 doesnt initialize properly with the Kyro card so the Kyro2 currently does it by software. This should increase the scores some, but 3dmark 2001 is really geared towards T&L capable cards, specifically Nvidia. I call it NvidiaMark 2001.

I also believe that 3dmark 2k1 only supports DXT3 texture compression, so Kyro 2 is always doing uncompressed textures. If you turn on 32bbp textures on a GF3 or Radeon, you will notice a fairly sizeable decrease in FPS

Yeah well I don't really care about benchmarking for the sake of benchmarking...maybe I should just not be so lazy and go install a game or two 😉

be certain you have the via 4 in 1's loaded if that applies. I doubled my 3dmark 2001 scores from 1500 to 3000 using that technique. BTW my truck scenes in 3dmark 2001 were about 4-6 before i installed the via 4 in 1's. after I installed them, that same scene went up to about 30.

"maybe I should just not be so lazy and go install a game or two"

Can't argue with that logic. 😉

Seriously, you're on the right track. Play your favorite games. Do they play fast enough, and with good image quality? If so, then who give a rat's @ss what your 3dMark scores are?

LOL Idon't actually care about the overall score.

I was getting 4FPS in some of the 3DMark tests....but then I dont' know how realistic they are.

I get 65FPS in Q3 at 1024x768x32 at max detail settings with high quality sound. Not to bad considering I didn't even bother to re-install my OS after changing motherbaord and video card.

make sure texture compression is enabled in the q3config.cfg. your score sounds like TC is off

seta r_ext_compressed_textures "1"

I added the texture compression to the end of my config file...no change.

I will reformat...just don't have time this week...I'll do it next weekend.

3DMark2001 absolutely HATES the Kyro II. I'm running it on a 1ghz T-bird on a kk266 mobo with 128MB RAM@133mhz, and I'm only getting 2000. 3Dmark 2000 on the other hand gets 5500. I'm pretty sure that 2001 hates everything but a GF3. Not to mention it needs DX8 and we all know that DX8 won't work rigth with a Kyro until the 8.1 finall comes out hang in there until then..it shouldn't be TOO long.
