sub timings may need to be a little different fox x99 to make it stable at 2800 than whats in the xmp for that kit

What CPU will you be using? AFAIK, the i7 CPUs for X99 don't support 16 GB DIMMs. Only Xeons do.

Here is the dilemma. According to intel website I7-5930k and 5960x only support up to 64gb but a large number of x99 motherboards support up to 128gb of memory.

There are 16 GB DDR4 Unbuffered modules that should work with both Haswell-E and Skylake. Look around if you find someone with at least 2 * 16 GB in a X99 with a Core i7. If you do, assume that it will work in any of them.

I personally know nothing about X99 in real usage.

I am a GSkill fanboi and is my favorite RAM.

Just for my little bit of two cents.
