i just saw opteron article that claims Opteron was responsible for 22% of shipped CPU in Q1 server market.

I've seen some conroe and AM2 previews and as of this moment it seems that intel got back on track of being #1.

do we have server version of conroe coming up soon? if so, what's its codename?

Yep. Its called Woodcrest.

Interestingly, while the actual processors themselves will be very good, they will still use the traditional front side bus so it'll be interesting to see if Woodcrest performance will be affected negatively in 4+ cpu servers.

The codename is Woodcrest...
It will have advantages and disadvantages against the Opteron, but it will wipe the floor with any Xeon to date.

Advantages are mainly the same as they are for Conroe...namely that the core is excellent.
Disadvantages are that it is limited to a FSB architecture (which is slower when you have more than 2 CPUs), also it takes 6 months or more for servers to be qualified when you get a new architecture (mission critical servers can take more than a year).

Dempsey, which starts shipping the end of May, is the last based on Netburst and should help to close the gap between Xeon and Opteron performance, but it won't be until Woodcrest that we see considerable gains by Intel on the server side.
