Is there such thing as "safe, minor overclocking" for my AK31A v3.1?

I just got a Shuttle AK31A rev 3.1 with an Athlon XP 1600+. Right now, with no overclocking of any kind, I get 39C idle and 47C after 2 hours of CPUBurn running. Is there any simple thing I can change (FSB?) that will give me a slight gain in performance without having the worries of hard-core overclocking? Just curious if I can get an extra bit of performance out of the system for free... :)

Thanks

Nick

Unless you do some hardcore overclocking, then your really not gonna feel it much. If you want some real performance gains, then I would suggest tweaking your pc. You will especially find gains when tweaking the video card.

no such thing as safe overclocking. that being said I have my 1700+XP bumped up to 1800+ on my ak31a. fsb increase of 5.

I keep trying to go higher but it won't post, so I try to increase the core voltage, but it won't increase. Does the processor have to be unlocked in order to increase the core voltage anyone?

Your memory and video card have to run well at the increased speed. I chose to reduce my cpu voltage to 1.64, and I can still run at 137 fsb with no problems. Did you do a fresh install and use the latest via drivers (version 4.35)?

unlock the chip and up the multiplier untell you pass stablity and then back it of a bit, nothing unsafe about that.
