1. Buy a safe, insulate it with some sound proofing.
2. Drill small hole for power cable/circuitry controls.
3. ???
4. Profit!

I think there may be such thing, I've been to restaurants where I don't hear the blender running. Of course those are commercial and may have had the motor placed in a sound proof enclosure.

We've been through about 4-5 retail ones in the past 5 years and they're all noisy. We use ours MAYBE once per quarter. I started looking into professional/commercial quality ones simply because I'm tired of buying crap. The commercial ones are typically $300+ and the only place I can find them is online so don't know how loud they are. I almost bought a $100 model but it was out of stock and then we got another retail one as a gift so I'm waiting for that one to die before I search again. This last one, can't remember the brand right now, seems to be holding up OK to our infrequent use, so, it might be (I hope) a while.

Good luck, and bookmarked for later.

You only use a blender 4 times before getting a new one?

We use ours a couple times a week, mostly for making smoothies. It's on for less than 5 minutes at a time, but MAN is it loud :p

I don't think blending should be a quiet activity. People need to know that you're blending.

More shocking is that he is contemplating getting a $300+ blender that he uses 4 times per year. ;)

I'd genuinely like to see an answer to this question, whether a definitive yea or nay. My family goes through blenders quickly - we use them for shakes mostly, but also for cooking. They are LOUD.

I would love to hear about any mechanism that uses *some* sort of noise cancellation technology. I believe a lot of consumers would be eager to welcome quieter appliances into their home.

Holding a small towel over the vents on the back of blender when you blend will muffle the sound.

Yea, I think commercial ones are even louder/more powerful, its just in the back in the kitchen area past insulated doors so you don't hear it.

I use a black and decker one thats lasted me maybe 2 years at about once a month.

I wonder if our doors block the sound. I don't remember being out in the dining room with the blender going and both doors shut.

Yeah. I've seen them. The type that can just walk into a room unnoticed and pretty much look like they belong there right away. They don't say much either... pretty damn quiet if you ask me. And oh do they blend...
