Is there such a thing?

Are there any LCD's greater than or equal to 20" that come with a native resolution of LESS THAN 1600 x 1200. (same with widescreen, I'm talking lower over all resolution)

Just kind of getting sick of 16x12 being too difficult to do on a mid/low end machine for basic games.

Perhaps the best option in this realm would be a CRT?

if u get a machine dvi capable with coressponding graphics hardware you should be able to play with black bars, thus allowing lower resolutions on larger monitors for lower end graphics cards...

that would allow u the desktop resolution 1600x1200 but u can revert down for games

1680x1050 is fairly close to what you desire and is fairly common for 20" widescreen LCDs. Any fewer pixels than that and you're going to start being able to see the pixels and experience less clarity.

LCD "TV" monitors usually are 1280x720 or 1366x768, and there are a handful of 20" computer monitors that are 1400x1050.

Anyone who want's a res lower than 1680x1050 on a 20.1in WS is beyond me. If anything I might want it a little higher, but 1680x1050 is a well rounded number for the screen size.

Refurb CRT rocks and is cheap. I picked up a 21" trinitron. Use it at 1600x1200 for desktop. I choose from a ton of different resolutions for games. Get a cheap refurb 21" trinitron while you can, soon they will be no more. I have been considering a second as backup. Two Refurb 21" trinitrons, still less than a 20" LCD.

Note this is after my 19" CRT croaked and I tried two LCD's (Dell 2405fpw,2007fp)and was dissapointed.

Now I am back to having lucious dark blacks, with mult resolutions, no smears or lags, perfect viewing angles etc... A lot to love with a good CRT.

Wouldn't the scaling cause no problems at all if you ran it at 800x600 resolution? Its just doubling the pixels so I'd imagine it wouldn't look like ass, and it would perform better. I don't know.

How could you not love the dell 2405fpw?

Heh, now work out how many 20" LCD's you can fit in the same space as 2 21" CRT's 😉

meh, scaling isnt' that bad.

on a widescreen 20" you can run 1280x1024 with black bars on the sides with no scaling whatsoever (assuming your monitor has a 1:1 function like the dell 2005).

Geez, let me count the ways. I think this is essentialy one of the worse LCD's on the market. I don't understand how people like this other than being cheap for the size, it has nothing going for it.

1: Way overbrite backlight, even on zero. Literally hurt my eyes. First time I every experienced this.
2: Hideous viewing angles: No I don't sit at an angle. Sitting right in front of the screen center. The sides of the images were washed out and this also produced glare artifacts.
3: Obvious input lag. I noticed soon as I hooked it up. Did more test span windows across to CRT. The thing has slow reaction to input.
4: Detail smear on motion.
5: Poor black levels. Ugly grey blacks.

Exaclty what does this screen do well? If you don't care about speed or image quality, I guess this is the screen for you.
