is there such a thing as renting a car from location A and return it at location B?

I will be traveling to Missouri in a few week thru a series of air-flying and driving.

on the return trip back to LA I will either have to make a decision of flying from Springfield, MO or Kansas City. From Springfield, the flight will be 8 hours long (due to 5 connections in between) and twice the price. From Kansas City, it will be only 4 hours long.

Going to Springfield airport would be no problem, but I prefer flying from KC, so can I rent a car from Hertz/Enterprise, drive from there and then return it at KC?

i've done it before. check with the companies and what their one way rental fees are, and how far you can drive it.

i did it driving LA to San Jose, and leaving the car there. i rented through Budget, and LUCKILY they don't charge a one way fee.

but when I check with Hertz/Enterprise at their website, the only choice I have is to return at the original 'renting' location. Is it this something I have to negoiate with up front at the desk?
