Is there such a thing as a USB 2.0 cable?
Or does everthing connected to a USB 2.0 source just pass along it's characteristics.
IOW are all USB cables and HUBS USB 1.1 if the controller is 1.1 or 2.0 if the controller is 2.0?

Yes there are USB 1 and USB 2 cables.

Belkin makes them in both versions, The usb 2 version is marked on the package as High Speed-USB2, and lists the transfer rate as 480mbps, 40 times faster than USB 1.1.

Both, however, are same gauge wires.

USB2 cables are backward compatible with USB 1x cables

I hear that the cables are the same, I have also heard that old (1.1) hubs will work at USB 2.0, as long as the host controller is USB 2.0. I'd like to find out the truth, anyone else?. -john

Are you 100% sure the cables are fine MDay? I don't think that is the case, although I have yet to try it out. I have both USB 2.0 and 1.1 cables and they're a bit different. I would have thought that if there is a difference in physical appearance then there would have to be a difference in bandwidth between the cables.....? Anyhow, I am open to your explanation of how this can be.
Of course 2.0 is backward compatible with 1.1, and I hear the external USB 2.0 drives are doing really well in both performance tests and in sales... makes you wonder if IEEE1394 has any sort of future.... Firewire who???? :p
