Is there such a thing as a SCSI to USB or LPT1 adapter?

My boss said he had an extenernal SCSI CD burner he would give me to back up my files on my laptop. Of coarse my laptop doesn't have a SCSI port, so I was wondering if there was such a thing as a USB or LPT1 adapter I could buy so I could use it with my laptop.

Thanks

Don't know about USB but there are SCSI to parallel adapters. Just do a google search on "scsi to parallel adapter" and you'll see a bunch of them.

Yes, there are SCSI to Parallel adapters - not USB. But they are suck. I go with XPac - get a PCMCIA SCSI card - like an Apatec 1460 and do it the right way. Performance is loads better that way.

Thanks for the info guys. It looks like a PCMCIA SCSI card would be the best solution. Now just to find a good deal on one 🙂

I don't know how much they cost, but it almost might be a break-even between PCMCIA SCSI card and USB burner.

The best deal for your purpose is an Adaptec 1460 here for $80. Any SCSI connection to a burner will blow away any thing USB 1 - in fact, USB 1 is almost too slow for an external burner.
