Is there such a thing as a RF USB Cable?

I have my computer in my living room and I have a Hercules MP3 mixer. It is connected via USB. As opposed to having a 10ft USB cord running from the mixer to the computer I was wondering if they make wireless USB cables?

They have wireless keyboards and mice. Do they have wireless USB cables that you could use for anything USB?

Or

Does a USB to bluetooth adapter exist? I could get a bluetooth card for my computer and then plug the adapter into the mixer.

Thanks,
JOe K.

Not likely. Most USB -> X adaptors work because the device is engineered to accept signals from interface X even though it might not have a plug for X

What I was hoping is that I could put an adapter on the mixer and then an adapter on the mixer.

Would that idea work with a bluetooth USB key? One key on the PC and the other on the mixer?

Consider this . . .

USB-BT

Just because something has a USB port doesn't mean you can just stick one of these in it and get Bluetooth. The mixer would have to already have Bluetooth in it for this to work at all. It would enable Bluetooth on the PC but would not do anything for the device in question. Besides Bluetooth is out because the device is USB powered (according to brief research).

The wireless USB hubs might work. Im assuming that the hub portion would be powered (IOGear states it Belkin doesn't) and thus supply the power to the mixer. Just use caution as the IOGear one does say there are some limitations to what it can support.

So are you saying that 2 bluetooth adapters would not give each item (PC, and Mixer) bluetooth capability? Is this because these bluetooth adapters require software bluetooth drivers?

You can purchase and AC adapter to get around the lack of USB power.

I saw a belkin Wireless USB hub on sale at Fry's I think for like $79. That's what you are looking for. I'll see if I can find it again.

EDIT: here it is...USB WIRELESS HUB

I'm thinking of getting one myself to share my multi-function printer the right way, so it works over the net.

Replacing the wire with a version of wireless USB is not going to make your printer a network printer.

To make it wireless a network printer you need a Wireless printer server, or a network ready printer.

Correct. BT isn't a trivial task the device has to be intelligent enough for it, which the mixer is not since its basically just a bunch of buttons and potentiometers.

The site where I saw screen shots of the device did not show any inputs other than USB. Regardless, Id imagine all wireless USB hubs should be powered (then have to send and receive a wireless signal after all) which should power the mixer.

yup, wifi print servers aren't that much.

as for wireless usb...forget about it, not worth the bother, 10 foot cord is not that bad.

Technically it can be attached to a PC with a wireless USB device and then shared on the network. But I agree a print server is the way to go.

Technically, you are correct. Since USB is point to point, it will only share that printer with one host at a time. I'm using something similar on linux today. Once the printer is mounted to my PC, I then share it out with printer sharing. The reason I went with this route is that I couldn't find a print server that would give good two way communication. I ended up with marginal printing and no fax or scan, and the client couldn't see the ink status etc. With this approach, it's just like having it plugged into my PC.
