Is there such a thing as a USB cable made just for printers? I've got a couple of USB cables here and I'm wondering if it matters which one I use with a new printer.

One is just a standard looking USB cable that is the same diameter from end to end. The other has a couple of larger diameter objects molded into the cable, one on either end of the cable several inches from the connector at the end. I assume these are some sort of noise filter, I think this cable came from an old printer but can't say for sure.

Would it make any difference which cable I used for a new printer?

Thanks,
BGC

The large cylindrical gizmos on either end of the cable are ferrite core noise/EMI traps. They are not needed by printers, but will hurt nothing.

All that matters on USB cables is the connectors. There are about 3 different kinds commonly used. "A", "B", and mini. Use anyone you like as long as the connectors mate.
