i'd kill someone to get a mobo with both compatibilites. but theres several chips required for a particular cpu brand. you'll only need to change mobo if the processor has a different amount of pins then the mobo can support.

In general, new CPUs require new sockets, so people tend to upgrade their motherboards.

But, that ECS rig looks sweet....

I just don't have high hopes for the new ECS board.

It looks like you are going to be really limited in your cooling options with the daughter board that the alternate CPUs hang off. It's pretty obvious that you probably aren't getting an XP90 on to one of those things. A Zalman 7000AlCu is out of the question entirely.

Also, if the cost is too much for the daughterboad, you are likely going to be better off selling your old board and buying a completely new board for your new CPU.

yes, any mobo pre-486 works for both AMD and intel, IIRC ;-)
