Is there such a thing as a generic CD-ROM driver for DOS?

I can't find anywhere the real mode driver for a Sony CDU311 CD-ROM drive. I'm trying to get it supported in DOS, so I need the real mode DOS driver for it. Sony says refer to the manufacturer of the controller card that the drive's plugged in to (the mainboard in this case.) The board is in an IBM system, I assume original equipment, but can't gain any information off the board, except that it has VLSI IC's all over it. There's a PN:62h8583 tag on the board, but this doesn't show anywhere in IBM's specs as best I can find.

Anyway, isn't there a generic driver I can use just to get CD-ROM drive support in DOS so I can install Linux?

BTW, I've checked driverguide, windrivers, and winfiles, but can't find a driver for this CD-ROM drive.

Use the universal CD drivers from Win9x boot disk. It's the "OAKCDROM.SYS" file.

OAK...That's the one! Actually, I'd never have thought of that one for some reason, although I've seen Win use it B4.

Thanx h0v
