Is there such a thing as a DOS emulator?

Running XP, got some old games to play (Betrayal At Krondor, Day of the Tentacle, etc). I've got an old W95 machine, but such a hassle to have to unplug the monitor/keyboard/mouse/sound everytime. And I don't want to bother with a KVM. Thoe old system is so fugly, I like the fact that it's under the stairs most of the time.

Anyway, is there any such ap out ther?

Damn, this thread makes me want to get Betrayal at Krondor and play it again. That game rocked. I wonder if I could get a hold of Lands of Lore (old DOS RPG produced by Westwood Studios) too....

It's freeware now. Do a google search and you'll get a link.

Just install and run the games. Seem to work fine for me when I played a couple legacy games. Lemmings and Battletech, if it matters.

Sweet! Did anyone ever beat that game? I got all the way to the end but I kept getting my ass kicked. It had a great storyline though and the gameplay was great for the most part. Some of the enemies sucked though (especially the $&#*$@& mountain trolls and snake priests).

Heh, did you ever use the built in cheat for that game? Do some key strokes in game and it brings up a "magic chest". FIlled with food, weapons, gems, etc, and the ability to restore all health to all charachters

98/ME mode isn't the same as DOS emulation. The underlying DOS system is only partially emulated under Win2K/XP, so switching modes won't help. 98/ME mode is for programs that look for specific characteristics of those OS's, and changes how a couple of things look to the program, but functionality is 99% the same as pure 2K/XP mode.

You know Windows XP has a built-in feature that allows you to run programs in Windows 95/98/ME mode.

Yeah but not DOS games. Sometimes those go crazy still in WinXP.

hehe, this is funny, i had to install MS DOS 6.2 on a computer at work today
its amazing how fast those old programs fly on a pentium II 266 Mhz w/32MB RAM 🙂

Anyone have a different link to the DOSBox installer? their page seems to be down at the moment 🙁
Or is anyone willing to IM it to me?

EDIT: n/m, I got it 🙂

I use DOSBox, and Betrayal at Krondor runs really slow and choppy. Go figure. I may just drag out the P75 and play it on there.

Another thing is the cheat for Krondor won't work in DOSBox (alt+ right shift + ~ key).

But it just runs so slow, it's as if I'm running the game on a 286.

How is the sound support? Will it clock divide too? I am going to have to download this when I get home and bust some Wing Commander 2. 😀

I need to try out Betrayal at Krondor. I've read all the Raymond Feist books and love the story. Gotta give the game a try.
