Is there such a thing as a Bluetooth wireless transmitter?

I heard there will be one for iPod that will work with any other device as a source and output to a Bluetooth Headset, but is there something comparable that is already out?

Is there someway I could use the Bluetooth adapter on my PC to achieve the same thing?

I've been unsuccessfully trying to do it on my PC (thread).

I've done that already. It only affects playback of files on my computer (MP3s, videos with sound, any file on my computer so far). What I want to do is send live radio to Bluetooth. I can connect the radio to the line-in on my sound card, but I can't figure a way to send it to the Bluetooth Audio device. Unmuting it only sends it to the speakers connected to my computer through the sound card.

I alwayst thought that something along those lines would be the heat - you could leave your mp3 player in your locker at the gym and just take your headset with you. Using nav buttons on the headset you could do basic navigation forward and back through your playlist. That would be pretty cool and no more dang wires getting in the way...

But I haven't heard of it being done yet.

That said, they suck. They use a compression scheme between the base unit and headset, recompressing whatever your source is. I believe the high quality version is 250kbps, but sounds worse than a comparably encoded mp3. They also have the capability of voice commands for skipping tracks, etc. I haven't heard anything about range, but I don't doubt that it is a Class 2 device (10m maximum theoretical range).

Unfortunately, I don't think we'll see any good, high quality wireless headphone devices with the current BT spec. However, I expect it to progress in throughput and distance just as any other wireless technology, and that should allow for higher quality devices with remotes, etc.

My dream is to have a pda, cellphone, media player (PocketPC perhaps) with built in HD and color screen and BT the size or a little bit bigger than the iPod. Then, you can connect BT headphones and a BT clip on remote with lcd. That would be perfect! You could stash the player in a pocket or bag, clip on the phones and clip the remote to your sleeve. I don't really care about range, just as long as the wireless cloud extends over my body...
