Is there such a place as "Southeast Asia"?

Are the countries of SEA really interconnected rightfully and appropriately, or is it just another simplified westernized term for the area?

im taking a class right now called "political economy of east asia" and whenever we are focusing in on indonesia, malaysia, singapore, vietnam, etc. we use the term 'southeast asia'

who cares if it's a 'simplified westernized term'... i'm sure asians/arabs/africans, etc. have plenty of simplified terms for the west too when talking in geographic terms.

why ask such a question?

can i take my vote for 'yes' back and vote 'who cares'? and can i append 'you dumb fvck' to 'who cares?" 😉

From east to west - Phillipines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand and Myanmar = Southeast Asia. So... yes!

Could I hijack this thread for a moment ?

Is there any negative connotation with using "Orient" or "Oriental" to describe that region or people from that region ?

I just wondered if there is a reason why "Asian" is used more frequently than "Orient" ?

I thought Oriental was used to describe objects? Just like calling people Islamic?

Orient = A place where white men go to get great sex with cute Asian girls for cheap price.
So no, there's no negative connotation, if you're white.

Edit: (To be politically correct) cute asian guys too.
