Is there something wrong with my PC or is Assassins Creed 2 a bad port?

Just got AC2...mainly just because Im hoping for a crack and my new ISP (Charter) is 100% more stable that AT&T (why do people still do business with them?).

Anyways...get home and start playing the game...1680x1050 8x AA just seems like too much, which was odd considering my specs...but I thought "ehh...Ill go to 4x"...still same story...2x, not much better...no AA around 30fps average.

This brings me to the thought that is AC2 just that damn demanding or is it a sub-par port? I mean, I would like to think that my system is well good enough to play any console port more than perfectly, but AC2 is just running crappy...is it just me? Granted Im not running top-of-the-line...but damn, my specs are well past any console (especially graphics wise x10) but it just isnt running up to par, or at least what I think is to par.

Anyone else grab this game and notice a lack of speed?

It "runs great" on a 3GHz C2Q, Radeon HD4870 512MB, Win7 and 4GB RAM at 1920x1200 AAx4 (though I only heard it, didn't see it for myself). "It's very smooth and doesn't slow down often" - best thing I can give you :p

Don't forget it could be a driver issue. Is AC2 a TWIMTBP title?

I'm pretty excited about picking this up, loved the first AC. It was repetitive, sure... but the animations and graphics were slick and I never got bored of stabbing dudes in the neck. :)

Have you tried turning off Xfire to see if that helps??? Console ports usually have a lot of problems early in their release.

I hate to say it, but people who bought that game deserve a crap experience. I wouldn't give a penny to Ubisoft for abusing their paying customers the way they do.

I would definitely try the latest video drivers. If you already do have them, it may be just a bug ATI hasn't fixed yet.

Bad timing...just realized there were new drivers out...10.2...dont know exactly if they fixed anything, but 1680x1050 (on a max 1800x1440 CRT) at 8x AA max everything Im seeing at the lowest 30fps...avg around 45-60fps...problem fixed! lol!
