Is there something wrong with my monitor (CRT)?

It is a ViewSonic 17" A70 made in 99'.My screen turns to a purpleish color occassionally?Anyway to fix it?I really like this CRT since I've been using it for a while...but if its aging then I might as well get a new monitor.

Hate to break it to you. But it sounds like it's time to start looking for a new monitor. 🙁

Monitors will give you little hints that it is going to die. Changing odd colors, flickering, loud ringging sounds and so on.

You can get them fixed but most of the time it's twice the cost of getting a new monitor.

I think I found the problem I disconnected the cable that connected my vid card to my monitor and one of the pins on the cable was missing...

Was about to tell you that the pin carrying the green signal is flaky or damaged (people have this problem constantly; please use the search function next time). But you seem to have found it. 😛

If it's a cable that is attached permanently to the monitor, and TV/electronics repair place can fix it for you. Otherwise, just replace the cable.

You can get VGA cables anywhere. The bigger question is 'how can I attach the new one to the monitor once I get it'? 😛

Unless you're real handly with a soldering iron, and know how to work with TVs/CRT monitors (super high voltages inside = dangerous), take it to a repair shop. It shouldn't cost more than $30-50 to have the cable replaced.

Considering the rest of your system, you should consider buying a new monitor. A 19" LCD would be a good fit (resolution wise) for your video card and cpu.

Is the pin missing, or just bent out of the way?
