Everytime I open windows explorer, it hangs for a few seconds before it will show my 2 hard drives, even when there aren't any discs in my cdrom and cdr drive. Then even when I go into a folder, it might hang for a few seconds. Why would it do this? I'm running windows 2000 sp2 with a tbird 1.2@1.4 with 512mb of ram...

the motherboard i have is a msi k7t turbo, and the two hard drives are a wd 6.4 gb and a maxtor 20 gb, both ata/33. cdrom is an asus 52x

Have you always had this problem? If so, it might be because your hard drives are only ATA/33. I was running an IBM ATA/100 and had to return it. In the meantime, I was using a Western Digital ATA/33, and noticed that it took several seconds everytime I opened any folder. It could be that's as fast as your drive can go.

well on my previous motherboard (an lx chipset) that never happened... it only started happening when i upgraded to this one

Man, with a 1.4 GHz system, you should get faster hard drives. Those 5400 rpm, ata/33 drives have to be the biggest bottleneck in your system.

yea i know, but i don't really have the spare cash
i'm waiting til the end of next summer (Before college) to do another upgrade 🙁
