Is there some way to have networking "profiles"?

I was wondering if there were some way to setup several networking profiles, so that I don't have to go to the TCP/IP settings tab and change them by hand everytime. In some places I need a static IP and other, more public places, I can get one auto-assigned. I really don't want to memorize DNS addresses anymore either.

Are these settings stored in the Windows XP registry?

Well, if someone has a nifty program (or method, anything that requires less typing) that does this, that would be great!

Maybe there is one that automatically sets up the profile as soon as the computer picks up a recognized wireless signal?

I've heard of exactly this being done on Linux :). But in windows, on the tcp/ip properties windows, isn't there a tab for an Alternate Connection? Can you use that?

For Windows you need 3rd party tools, for Linux things like laptop-net rock, laptop-net can even be setup to autodetect the network you're on and select the profile automatically.

Ah, well for now the built in windows "Alternate Settings" tab works beautifully. It remained hidden from me since I decided to input the manual IP settings first, and when you do that, the tab disappears.
