title says it all. i want to hook my dvd player up to my speakers so i can use them instead of the speakers on the tv. i have a santa cruz sound card. is this possible?

Does your sound card have an optical in? If it does, plug in an optical cable from your DVD player (assumng it has optical out), into your soundcard and you're set.

no optical in on the santa cruz...i'm using those red/yellow/white plug things on my dvd player, i guess what im looking for is something that will convert whichever one is audio to a plug size that will fit in my sound card's line in....do they make such a thing?

red and white is audio..RadioShack has a lil plug adapter that will take these 2 into the 1/8 inch line-in..<edit> p/n @ RadioShack is 274-883 I believe

Yes, that's the one. You might also want to pick up a 1/8" Y-splitter so you get sound out of your 4 speakers. It won't be real surround, just the same stereo track out of the fronts and rears, but it'll play louder. 😛

edit-- oops, nevermind... I thought you were hooking up the speakers directly to the DVD player. 🙂
