Is there some kind of contract free service that I could port a phone number to?

I'm trying to get out of my Verizon Wireless contract and have the ETF's waived in the process.

Part of my issue though is that since I do not have something else lined up for immediate use, I'd risk losing my current phone number.

Can you port to a pay as you go service?

Is there a way to port to some virtual service?

Tracfone/etc.

You can port numbers to them?

Yes. I had a sprint line out of contract, and wanted to get the SERO plan. The SERO plan is only for new customers though, so I picked up a $12 tracfone and ported the number. It took them forever to get it done, but eventually it transferred. Then I called in and ported it back to my "New" sprint SERO account.
