Is there software that'll enable copying chapters of a DVD w/o copying the whole disc?

Hi, All,

I have a number of concert DVDs that I'd like to copy certain songs off of and then burn those songs to a single DVD -- to make sort of a compilation or "greatest hits" disc.

I have a basic Nero app that came with my DVD burner, and I can make copies of a whole DVD with it (if it isn't copy-protected), but it won't let me select out single chapters of the DVD to copy. Is there any software out there that will enable me to do that?

I'd prefer a free application that I can download, but I'll pay a few dollars for a good program if necessary. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Oh, and what's the difference between the terms "burn" and "rip"? Or do they mean the same thing?

What you want to do is to "rip" songs out of a DVD movie format. That can be done. There is a difference between rip and burn. The latter is simply creating an optical disk - it uses a laser to record or "burn" the data. Rip means to extract the music or songs you want as separate files. Music CDs are easy to rip. Lots of good freeware. Rip[ping music out of movies is more difficult.

Try DVD Ripper freeware.
