Maybe I missed it, but is there software that will accurately read actual power consumption of CPUs (and maybe GPUs) under load?

The TDP given by Intel, while an established (complex) standard, doesn't really help when looking for peak or OCed power demand related problems/curiosities.

Has anyone actually gotten this to work?
Not me. I use either CPUID HWMonitor or HWiNFO64 - both show the power draw.

On my system, running desktop flux capacitor simulations that's over 1.21 gigawatts. Great Scott!

I've always used HWMonitor myself.

Helluva nice piece of shareware for what it allows you to do. Or what it allows you to see.

There's always the temptation in stress-testing to run more than one monitor program at once, and some ASUS mobo configurations may have AI Suite as a startup program. I think there's a strong opinion based on our experience (that includes my own) that conflicts of two software programs polling the same sensors can lead to crashes. the crashes can be easily interpreted as false positives during the arduous process of finding good OC settings.

Never had a problem with HWMonitor by itself, and it seems to meet a certain level of accuracy and dependability. I THINK it is incorporated into OCCT, but you'd still not want two instances of the same monitoring software running at once.
