Hi all, I have been reading DSLReport.com and know there are tweaks for optimal connection speed....

but I wonder if the NIC properties will have anything to do with the connection speed ? and also how do they do...

to name a few .. I found the following in my 3 Com Etherlink 10/100 NIC

802.1p Support
Down Poll Rate
Flow Control
Media Type
NDIS Driver Version
Rx Checksum Offload
Tx Checksum Offload

I wonder what do they do and what kind of value should I use...

thanks all for your help !!

thanks

If you want to be healthy, and prosper don?t touch the settings that you indicated above.

Download DrTCP from DSLreports, and use it to adjust your TCP/IP settings.

DrTCP here: http://www.dslreports.com/front/DRTCP019.exe

The following is an Example of setting optimized for broadband Internet connection.

Tcp Receive - 513920

Window Scaling - Yes

Time Stamping ? No

Selective Acks ? Yes

Path MTU Discovery - Yes.

Black Hole ? NO

Max Duplicate ? 3

TTL ? 64

MaxMTU ? 1500.

Your mileage may vary.

Hi, jackMDS..

what's that tweak..

is that tweak for the NIC connect to broadband modem (I guess it is).. or the ICS NIC (probably NOT)

and where do u get info about that tweak or u make your own ?

comment is appreciated...

There are no tweaks that prove to work on the NIC, some people play with the memory allocated to the NIC?s IRQ, but it does not seem to produce any noticeable results.

The known Tweaks are changes to the Registry settings that involve TCP/IP.

The biggest pull of examples is here:

Cable/DSL Speed Patches.

Tweaking the settings is easier, and more reliable using DrTCP (see my post above).

The settings in my previous post are derived from optimizing my Cable, and DSL systems, for Max. Download

The numbers above work for me, the two values to play with is ?Tcp Receive?, and ?MaxMTU?. My system works with the max allowed for these values. In other systems, smaller numbers may yield better results. It is ?a trial, and see what comes out process?.
