I don't think there is really much of a reparations movement... their position is so weak I think even very few liberals take them seriously. That Horowitz-Lewis (co-chair of "N'COBRA" National Coalition of Blacks for Reparations in America) debate was held on the campus here. Here's a couple of quotes from Lewis:
1) "Reparations is not about the debt; it is about the wealth. With reparation, we can [support] ourselves without the vouchers and handouts." Speaks for itself. Essentially says the black community is incapable of taking care of itself without huge payments from the government. They're willing to trade one payment (reparations) for another (vouchers and handouts). The statement "Reparations is not about the debt; it is about the wealth" seems really suprising. You'd think they would say the opposite. In other words, it's not about justice, it's about money.
2) Lewis said that African-Americans at least need reparations so that they can leave the country and go back to Africa in ships "in style." [Dr Evil voice]Riiiiiiight.[/Dr Evil voice]
3) Lewis described blacks in prison as "the two million African-Americans warehoused in the concentration camps they call prisons."
Not debating reparations itself here, just sharing some of the kooky things their national co-chair said.
