Is there REALLY a good proxy server for home use?

There are many out there I think, but do they actually work? Right now I am using an SSL connection to my news server so that about as secure as it gets. But what about other internet traffic?

(BTW I did search for this unsucessfully...)

You may want to look into Tor.
