hi, just wondering if there is a performance decrease if you partition your hard drive into two, like a 45 gigger into a 30gb and 15gb partition. will it be slower, no effect, anything?? thanks...
I would say it would be faster because it has more of an idea on where to get the data. I've got my 20 gig into 3 6.4gig partions (one for win2k one for win98 and the other for my other stuff) and it's really fast like that.
Yep that's right. Each partition will be faster and be more efficient since the block size is smaller (making minimum file size smaller) and there's less area to cover for the heads when you want to access something from a drive.
I have my c: as only 2 gigs because I want to boot quickly and then I have a 500 mb partition as the swap file, and the rest I use as two 20 gig partitions for storage.
The more you partition the hard drive the closer it is to defragmented at all times. Of course it doesn't help much for simultaneous reads and writes. It's always gonna kill your CPU, too.
