Everyone talks about how this generation is the absolute last for AGP. Is there any truth to this though - ie: confirmation from ATI or Nvidia that they will only poduce PCIE cards? It seems the only requirement is getting the bridge chips in to do the PCIE to AGP translation.
I ask mainly because I'm about to bite the bullet on SOME card, only because I know that the last of a generation usually depreciates in value less, meaning if I was interested in picking one up later the prices will suck even moreso because it won't be that much cheaper considering how "old" it will be. But if we will see some G80s appear in AGP, or the R600 comes to AGP I may change my mind (and i'm sure with something as strong as the R600 i should be able to get probably geforce 66XX preformance levels with their crappy linux drivers which is still a step up from what i have
)
So whats the consensus: is this really the last gen for AGP?
