Is there no way to allow AOL users to post on AT?

I mean, Netzero used to be fine for me, but they're implementing a 40 hour/month limit now, so I'm not free to use it at my will, so I'm stuck with my only other option now, AOL :-(

It's been a really long while since you denied AOL users usage of the forums right? Isn't it about time to let them out of the suffering yet :þ

Otherwise, I'd understand you not wanting to cause havoc in your forum again..

My suggestion would be to set up an AnandTech private e-mail system to use with banned ISP's. It would ONLY be used for mod messages, no external e-mails accepted. Registration for it would require a valid banned ISP address, so only those affected by it could use it. That way we can weed out the people that cause trouble, while allowing the ones that don't.

Hope that made sense...

hehe, brings back memories.. I think it was that "Guy Until The Bridge" character that caused AOL to bet banned.. along with a LOAD of other ISP's. hehe 🙂

BUMP here..

I told GoldenGuppy (who did a complete rip off of my name if you hadn't noticed) to post this as I was on AOL at the time 🙁

Search around... there are much better services then netzero that are free... My friend has 3. I would tell ya them if I knew them but I'm sure you can find em with 40 hours on your hands 🙂

I really don't know of any. Juno AND Bluelight for some reason don't work at all for me.

And that's pretty much the only three I know of..

Would using a websurfing proxy work at all? There's several free ones out there...use a search engine for details :]

[edit]As I understand it, it's not just aol email addresses that are banned, but aol IPs as well[/edit]

The only free ones left that aren't going out are Netzero, Bluelight, and Juno. I gave up and got SegaNet. According to the mod that I emailed before I did it, there is no way for the AOL ISP to post here. It's too bad someone had to ruin it for every AOL user. Not ALL of us are idiots 🙂

I like vipers idea, I think that would make it fair for those AOL users who want to use this site, yet still gives the mods the power to yank them if they get out of line. I think letting all AOL users back in, opening the gates, would cause some trouble. We all know how those "hackers" (as they like to call themselves) are a big annoyance to those of us that actually have respect for the net..

No offense to the AOL users, but are we sure that we want them to post here?

(Really, though. Do we want the forums filled with questions about why someone's icons moved?)
