I am ready now to upgrade my motherboard, and put my Atlon Thunderboard 1.33mhz/266 to use finally. My question is this,I do not want to use DDR ram with this CPU,,,it wouldn't perform that much differently from the SDRAM , So,,I want to use a board that uses SDRAM , but not the ECS K7S5A
This is my first build,,I have heard to many bad things from this board, and I am not that savvy to maybe overcome some of them . So,my question is this,,,which motherboard would put my cpu to work, and overclocking is a for sure,,,so,I am looking for a good stable SDRAM motherboard, pls help,,,I want to order by tomorrow,,ty all again

OR even another board other then the ECS K7S5A that will accept both types of ram,,pls help

There's only one other DDR/SDR board and that is Asus A7A266 but it performs very poorly (even when using DDR it's barely faster than SDRAM) and should be avoided. So, as for SDR boards. My recommend would have to go to the king of KT133A.................................................IWill KK266+

Why wouldn' t you notice a performance increase, you cpu isn't slow?
But really none that I can think of for overclocking.
I was going to say the asus board, that athlon4all said but I agree with him about performance. I would go with the ecs over that, but that is just me.

The A7A266-E overcame the speed problem of the older A7A266.

Oh man, no kidding, I think Iwill is the king of motherboard, I don't understand why it is not the most popular. By the best system I ever built is the one based on an Iwill XA100 motherboard. Still working!!! Other boards are dead for a long time.

OK, I think I need a 168pin RAM board too, I though I wanted Iwill, but their boards are not cheap at all. Any suggestions on this? I think DDR ram is too expensive, while I got too much old ram sitting around. Iwill KK266+? That's like $100 something, right? Even more expensive then XP333.... :)

But if it is really that good, I will go for it!

No difference? Are you kidding? SDRAM chokes the performance of high Mhz CPU's, why anyone would still want SDRAM on a high powered CPU I don't know, PC2100 DDR is like a 5 dollar price difference from SDRAM of the same size, DDR kills SDRAM.

he said he uses a tbird, and ddr really doesnt have that much performance over sdr when dealing with the older spitfire/tbird cores (because they are not very memory bandwidth hungry)

now if he was using a morgan or palomino i would say ddr for sure :)

$5 difference? Where are you buying your DDR ram? Or did you get some really expensive SDRAM? I was just deciding between SDRAM and DDR few hours ago, and decided to continue using my existing SDRAM and bought a KK266+. :) I guess "existing" is the key word for me then. But DDR RAM is really kinda expensive recently.

I agree, but I havbe yet to see it anywhere. As a matter of fact, only a handful of stores still have the original A7A266. So, at this time, I don't think (unfortunately) that the A7A266-E is an option:(

I used an ECS K7S5A when I rebuilt my daughter's computer and added a Tbird 900 and Geforce2 MX and 256MB DDR (cost me $35 a couple of months ago when it was cheap) and her computer works with no crashes in W2K Pro. The only problem was the onboard NIC disappeared after two days, so I threw in her old NIC instead of bothering with RMA'ing it. 4-year-olds don't seem to care what kind of NIC they have. ECS says it can handle an XP 2000+

If you want to save money, Epox has some nice boards. I am happy with my MSI K7T Turbo-R. The RAID mirroring has saved me a couple of times as I have no backup.

Then again I doubt you can go wrong with the Iwill either.

There are a few boards with the same SiS chipset but you've really
got to search for them. I believe NewEgg has 2-3 of them.........Greg
