without knowing cursive, you can't read any old documents including letters from parents/grandparents. so i think it's valuable just for that.

some states have gotten rid of it in their curriculum but my nieces and nephews are all learning it in school.

i stopped using it in college because i have difficulty writing (weird disconnect between brain and hand which causes me to drop a ton of letters). but i still read cursive when doing genealogy and history research all the time.
