Is there is a case for me ... ?

Ok, it's getting on new system time, and for my next build I've promised myself I'm not going to scrimp on the one area I've always scrimped on in the past ... the case! I've learned the hard way how important it is.

Here's a gripe: why doesn't every case made have USB and (especially) firewire ports in the front, on the top? So-called plug-and-play doesn't seem very convenient at all if you have to reach around to the back of the machine every time you want to switch things out ... or even stooping to the floor for that matter (for those of us who have our machines on the floor, anyway).

So here's what I want: a good, cool case with a side window, USB and firewire ports at the TOP/front, and a removable mobo tray. Screwless (or "toolless") if possible.

I've searched at Newegg but it's hard to find the perfect beast. Anybody know of one?

I was going to say the same thing and list some sites you could go to in order to purchase it and look at others but apparently i recieved a JavaScript Error 1258.... censored word(s)

That one looks good. A reviewer at Newegg says the front USB ports only work as 1.1, not 2.0. That doesn't make sense, does it?? I mean, the ports in the case are just holes, right? The 1.1/2.0 factor should have to do with the board inside?

Others?

I think it has to do with the amount of ground... I know that The only way to get gigabit on copper (i.e Cat 5/6) is to have all 6 pins operating in full duplex and that ATA 100-133 speeds are achieved through every pin in the system have its own ground wire. It is possible that if the front panel USB ports don't have enough ground wires for USB 2.0 then it won't run at those speeds.... just my thoughts.

Personally, I'd go with one of the Lian-Li V series cases (V1000, V1100, V1200, V2000, V2100, etc.)... The V1100 has both two USB ports in the front, as well as a FireWire (400/a) port. I'm VERY happy with the case (have the V1100) and would get another in a heartbeat.

THe Lian-Li is all aluminum as opposed to the Antec having a plastic bezel but I think the Lian-li is still a little too costly... it is a nice case (my friend has one... ) I I really like all the tool-less features butI'm gonna be going for the P160 all the same.... personal preference I suppose....

Shuuuuuuuey, those LIan-Li's are pricey!

Can anyone solidly confirm anything on the USB 1.1/2.0 issue with the Antec P160? Because other than that, the case looks perfect.

The Coolermaster CM Stacker has what you are looking for. It's pretty big, though, full tower. It's a lot cheaper than those Lian Li cases but a little more than the Antec P160.

On taking a closer look at the specs at Newegg, it says rather plainly that the front ports are "USB 2.0." The more I think about it, it just seems absolutely senseless that they'd only work as 1.1. Why would you manufacture such a premium case with such a silly limitation?

If that does turn out to be the case, I guess I could always return it (pain in the a*s though that may be).

I think this looks like the perfect case for me. I think spending much more would be overkill. It occurs to me that, in my quest to always buy things that will be reusable, a good solid case is one thing I can always use over and over ...

Oh, and I just caught the review on the front page here at anandtech.

Thanks for the suggestions!
